A month you can write on
Most calendar sites want an account, then stamp a watermark on the page you meant to hang on the fridge. This one builds the grid in the tab. Pick a year and a month range, Letter or A4, Sunday or Monday as the first weekday, then download a PDF. Each day has empty lines so a pencil still has somewhere to go.
The sample is September 2026, Letter, weeks starting Sunday, US federal holidays on, no Softery.io mark. Change any of those and the preview updates before you download. Twelve months is the cap so this page does not become a pile of empty year landings.
Letter, A4, and the 0.5 inch inset
Letter is 8.5 by 11 inches, 612 by 792 points. A4 is 210 by 297 mm. The same layout math feeds the preview and the PDF, so what you see is the page that will print. Content stays 36 points in from every edge. That is half an inch. It is there because a home printer often cannot mark the last few millimetres of the sheet.
After Download, open the file. If a day number sits on the line, the export is wrong and you should not print a classroom set from it. Check one page first. The write-in lines are light on purpose so handwriting stays readable.
Leap days and the start of the week
February 2024 has 29 days. February 1900 has 28. January 1, 2026 is a Thursday, so a Sunday-start grid leaves four empty cells before the 1. A Monday-start grid leaves three. Neighbour months are not filled in. Empty cells stay empty so this stays a blank calendar, not a planner that already wrote last month for you.
Years run from 1 to 9999. The leap rule is Gregorian: a year divides by 4, except a century that does not divide by 400. That is a real limit. England skipped 11 days in 1752. This page will not reconstruct that calendar.
US holidays, local, with a named source
The toggle is US federal holidays from 5 U.S.C. 6103. New Year's Day, Independence Day, Juneteenth, Veterans Day and Christmas move to Friday or Monday when they land on a weekend, following the OPM observed rule. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November. Juneteenth is on the list from 2021. Turn the toggle off and the grid is blank days with write-in lines.
A state holiday, a school break, or a religious calendar is not in that statute, so it is not on this page. There is no fetch and no second country list. If you need those, write them on the lines.
A photo header, then the PDF
JPEG or PNG, sniffed from magic bytes, not from the filename. The strip is one inch tall inside the same 0.5 inch inset. Cap is 8 MB. The photo is not stored with the knobs. Close the tab and it is gone. The share URL carries paper, week start, holidays, the mark, and the month range. Preview that URL before you copy it. A family calendar is not a public card.
The Softery.io mark is off unless you turn it on. It sits small in the bottom margin. Classroom stacks usually want it off.
Common questions
Does this page upload my calendar or the header photo?
No. The grid is date math in this tab. The PDF is written here with pdf-lib. A header photo, if you add one, is read as JPEG or PNG bytes and drawn on the page. It is not saved in localStorage. Mixpanel and Google Analytics load with Softery.io. They see that someone opened the tool, which setting moved, and whether a download happened. They do not get the photo or the PDF.
Which holidays show up when the toggle is on?
US federal holidays from 5 U.S.C. 6103. Observed weekends follow the OPM rule: Saturday to the Friday before, Sunday to the Monday after. Juneteenth is included from 2021. The list is computed here. There is no holiday API. Other countries are off because a holiday depends on the country and sometimes the county, and this page will not guess.
Will a home printer cut off the grid?
The grid, title, weekday row and write-in lines sit inside a 0.5 inch margin on Letter and on A4. That is 36 points. Many home printers clip about a quarter inch. Open the downloaded file and check the edges before you print a stack. If a driver still crops, pick Fit to printable area in the print dialog. That is a driver setting, not a second export.
Where do the settings live?
Paper, week start, the holiday toggle, the Softery.io mark, and the month range sit in this browser under softery.printable-calendar-generator.settings. Copy settings link puts those knobs on the URL. The header photo never goes in the URL and never goes in localStorage. Clear the site data, or hit Clear settings, and the knobs go back to this month on Letter with Sunday weeks and holidays on.
