The image is the code
A lot of "free" QR pages give you a square that points at their host. You print the cards. They keep the mapping. A month later the square still looks the same and the phone opens a paywall. The picture was never the code. The code lived on their server.
This page draws a static symbol. The URL you typed is the URL in the modules. There is no shorter link, no scan count, and no account. Close the tab and the file you downloaded still encodes the same bytes. I will not write that the destination site lives forever. I will write that nobody here can switch the square off.
You can read what was actually encoded
The box above the download names the payload in full. If you typed a tracking parameter, it is still there. If you typed a Wi-Fi string, it is still there. I do not rewrite it into a host I control.
After the logo is painted, a second decoder reads the pixels. That decoder was written from the QR standard, not by walking the encoder backwards. The line under the payload is what it recovered. Believe that line more than the preview.
A logo that stays off the finders
The three big squares in the corners are how a scanner finds the symbol. Cover one and a lot of phones give up. The mark on this page sits in the middle, between 8 and 20 percent of the width, with a two module pad. If a version 1 symbol cannot hold that, the page grows the version until the finders are clear, or it refuses.
Level H is on for every code here. That is the 30 percent restoration band in ISO/IEC 18004. It costs room, which is why a long URL makes a denser square. The sample is https://softery.io, a URL that already lives on this site, so a first visit still produces a real code.
Ink a camera can split
Yellow on white looks fine on a monitor and fails in a lens. This page measures the contrast of the pair and stops below 3 to 1, which is the WCAG floor for graphics. Black on white is 21 to 1. You can still pick a brand color. You cannot pick one the paper swallows.
The millimetre buttons are a print preview, not a photograph of a scan. 30 mm is a common card mark. 50 mm is a poster. Type 15 to 80 if your stock is somewhere else. The page names the module width in millimetres so the shop is not guessing from a PNG that has no size.
Common questions
Will this code stop working next month?
The image will not. It is a static QR. The bytes live in the PNG or the SVG you download. This page does not host a redirect, so there is no bill that can turn the square off. The site the square points at can still move or die. That is a different problem, and I will not pretend a picture can keep a URL alive.
Does a logo in the middle still scan?
This page reads the finished pixels after the logo is painted, with a decoder that does not share code with the encoder. If that read matches what you typed, you see it. If it does not, you see that instead of a green check. Level H can lose about thirty percent of the modules and still recover. A mark between 8 and 20 percent, kept off the finder corners, is the band this page will draw. That is not a promise about every camera, every printer, or every phone in a pocket.
Does this page upload what I type?
No. The encode runs in this tab. Mixpanel and Google Analytics load with Softery.io. They see that someone opened the tool, which setting moved, and whether a download was SVG or PNG. They do not get the URL, the logo, or the file.
Can I print this on a card?
Yes. Pick 20, 25, 30, 40 or 50 millimetres, or type a width from 15 to 80. The preview is that wide on screen. The page also names the module size in millimetres so a print shop can check it. Download the SVG for print. The PNG is the raster this tab already decoded.
